Six week photography workshop with Khali Ackford

Activism Through The Lens is a six week photography workshop led by one of Bristol's top activist photographers, Khali Ackford.

Khali has taken some of the most iconic Bristol images of the Black Lives Matter movement, including the fall of the Colston Statue, Kill the Bill, and many more. With examples from his own work, Khali will explore how to elevate subjects through photography and how photography can support communities under threat -as well as giving practical tips on how to improve your photography skills.

The sessions will also include field trips to cultural institutions, on location shooting, Q&As with activist artists. and practical tips on how to use different techniques to make political statements through your work.

The sessions are suitable for beginners and intermediate photographers.

Workshop Dates

Session 1 - Thu 16 Sep 6-8pm (Trinity)

Session 2 – Sun 26 Sep 1:30pm - 4 pm

Session 3 - Sat 02 Oct 1.30pm - 4pm

Session 4 – Sat 9 Oct 1.30pm - 4pm

Session 5 - Sat 16 Oct1.30pm - 4pm

Session 6 - Fri 22 October 6.30pm – 8pm (Trinity)

Sessions 2-5 will be on location. All attendees are to meet at the Trinity Centre for each workshop.

About Khali Ackford

Khali Ackford is a Bristol based photographer whose work concentrates on celebrating and elevating the black community. He has worked alongside Rider Shafique under the name 'Identity', which aims to give young black people a positive reflection of themselves through art. His photographic work ranges from portraiture to raw documentary photography.

Activism Through the Lens is part of the Art of Resistance programme of activities. Art of Resistance is a two-year, National Heritage Lottery Funded project charting 100 years of protest in Bristol.
