Georgia has been on a long, dazzling journey since the release of her critically acclaimed debut album in 2015. Her first self-titled collection of percussive, punk-inflected pop songs was lauded by The Guardian, Vice, The FADER and others.

Her new album, Seeking Thrills, is a musically daring story of hedonism, self-discovery, and above all, the transcendental power of the dancefloor. Seeking Thrills fuses analogue club sounds with solid pop songwriting, and showcases the North West Londoner's lifelong love affair with the drums. As a session drummer, making her name playing and collaborating with Micachu, Kwes, and Kate Tempest, she used her technical knowledge to replicate set-ups from 80s house and techno.

Byron Wallen is ‘one of the most innovative, exciting and original trumpet players alive’ (Jazzwise Magazine). Widely recognised as a seminal figure in world jazz, he is constantly travelling the world recording, teaching and performing.

Byron was raised in a musical environment and started learning the piano at an early age. He went on to study trumpet with Jimmy Owens, Donald Byrd and Jon Faddis in New York. His early music career was forged while he was studying for a degree in Psychology, Philosophy and Maths at Sussex University. During this period he recorded for Loose Ends and Cleveland Watkiss, and played trumpet with the likes of Mervyn Africa, The Style Council, Charles Earland, Courtney Pine and Jean Toussaint.

By the late 90s his work was receiving world-wide attention and his fluent trumpet, firmly rooted in the jazz tradition, could be heard performing with a myriad of artists including David Murray, Andrew Hill, Butch Morris, Billy Higgins, Hugh Masekela, Manu Dibango, Eddie Henderson, Wynton Marsalis, George Benson, William Orbit, Toumani Diabate, Ronnie Laws and Chaka Khan. One of the most versatile and dynamic voices on the British jazz scene, he has also performed with rap outfits such as The Roots, Digable Planets and Us3.

He has collaborated and recorded with Talvin Singh on the Mercury prize award-winning album OK for Island Records (2000); Craig David on the title track Slicker Than Your Average (2002); and Courtney Pine on the albums Back in the Day (2000) and Devotion (2003).

In Lockdown in early 2020 we teamed up with some of the most exciting names in Bristol's music scene, from St Paul's Carnival to Mini Rig to Nozstock Festival, to bring online audiences live streams.

In October 2020, our socially-distanced Trinity Presents: Garden Sessions where the first opportunity to welcome audiences back to Trinity to enjoy live music, in person.

“I’ve always known how much I value shared human connection on a dance floor but since March I’ve been trying to get this in other ways, dancing on zoom with friends, dancing to my mini rig with 5 friends in a wood. But tonight I experienced again the incredible wonder of the talented DJs of @bootybass playing tunes and responding to a crowd, feeling my insides vibrate with bass, glancing up and smiling at a stranger as you connect, arms in the air in synchronicity and I cried a little tear of joy. This is the stuff of life, creative shared human experience. My heart is full. Thank you the Trinity Centre creating such a beautiful safe space.” Feedback from audience member Oct 2020

We put together an exciting series of events in a special, Covid-secure outdoor area in Trinity's historic grounds.

We teamed up with some of our favourite artists & Soundsystems for 9 full days sell-out live music & DJ's : Waldo's Gift, Hodge & Danielle, Dubkasm, Ashanti Selah, Young Echo, Sinai Soundsystem, Booty Bass, Bandulu, Sofa Sound, Afrobeat Fridays.

People commented that the space felt magical and like something special that you discover in a hidden corner of a festival.

We're very much looking forward to be able to present our postponed November line-up as soon as lockdown restrictions ease. Keep an eye on our website and social media info and announcements.

Post-punk band from Peckham, South London

Goat Girl originated in 2015, when the four Londoners (Lottie Cream, L.E.D, Naima Jelly and Rosy Bones) came together through their love of music and like-minded attitudes, continually crossing paths at a number of gigs and open mic nights across South London. The quartet’s combined talents and enthusiasm resulted in a uniquely defiant sound with conscious lyricism, all of which wasted no time in pricking the ears of legendary British record label Rough Trade. Using the Brixton Windmill as a sounding board, the warped, country-tinged sound of their debut album Goat Girl engulfed the sonic and social landscape that the band were surrounded by, citing fellow performers Bat-Bike, Horsey, Meatraffle and Warmduscher as influences.

It’s 30 years since 808 State made the opening salvos into what became UK Acid House & Techno. Their legacy is being discovered by new generations, with versions of their classic anthems such as ‘Pacific State’, ‘In Yer Face’ & ‘Cubik’, remodeled every few years - be it by other international acts (Bicep, Too Many DJs), classical orchestras (Manchester Camerata) or art led projects (Jeremy Deller’s Acid Brass).

808 State littered the Pop music charts with the oddest of tracks and collaborations, but did so as one of the first album orientated groups of the Rave era - here is where 808 State made their mark with genre defining albums such as Newbuild, 90, Ex:El & Don Solaris.

These albums for the ZTT & Tommy Boy labels had 808 State touring the globe, as a live act of some repute. Always technology driven, 808 State’s recent live performances at Moog Fest and Galaxiid last year saw brand new material introduced, alongside the classics, with a more organic improvisatory nature due to the march of new portable and gig friendly music technology.

Garden Sessions

Working with some of the best artists and promoters in the city, our Garden Sessions bring you a series of socially distanced events in a way you've never experienced at Trinity before, in a new outdoor venue on our historic grounds.

Our first Thursday limited session, book your table*

Kutamba

Mixing their love for Zimbabwean music in through a western fusion to provide a fresh take on some of the world's most driving and rich music. Using an ear for detail to capture the wild sound and infectious dance riddim vibes of the Shona language, Kutamba will be taking to the stage to share their joyful high energy performance.

After missing out on a selection of great festival bookings around the country this summer Kutamba are very excited to perform their only 2020 show of the Autumn for the Trinity Center.

From the fiery rhythms of Thomas Mapfumo and the bound boys to the feminist soul clenching melodies of chiwoniso, right through to the warm sound and catchy ear worms of Oliver Mtukudzi, Kutamba play the sounds of Zimbabwe with their own touch.

True Strays

True Strays make sounds for an America that didn’t quite exist. Influenced by the blues of Willie Dixon, the calls for justice of Bob Dylan and Neil Young, the dirt of QOTSA and the sonic brilliance of Alabama Shakes. Not just brainless rockers, the music is concerned with zero hour contracts, the destruction of the National Health Service, climate chaos and the mental health epidemic. True Strays are using the rights and wrongs of the past to paint a brighter hope filled future. For Joe and James, writing songs and creating a sound that is believable, real and authentic is at the heart of what they do. Their shows, always melting barriers between audience and band, end in a riotous crowd singing hoedown.

True Strays have been the soundtrack for late night lock ins, pool party break ins, festival headline mayhem, Sofar Sessions, caleidhs, crowd surfing and Extinction Rebellion occupations.

The Evil Usses

+ Support

Having met as part of the final cohort to attend the legendary (and sadly now defunct) experimental Dartington College of Arts in rural Devon, Conrad, Dan, Leon and Lorenzo played together in various other permutations before forming The Evil Usses. Having arrived at a sound somewhere between Captain Beefheart's Magic Band and Deerhoof, they now find themselves embedded within Bristol's boundlessly creative music scene and part of the 'Bloom' collective.

Their eponymous debut saw them working with Jim Barr (Portishead/Get the Blessing) and their second album 'Amateur Pro Wrestling' was produced by Deerhoof guitarist John Dieterich. Both records quickly sold out on limited edition colour splatter vinyl and have since been repressed. Their third release, the 10” mini-album 'Muck' (also co-produced by Dieterich), was released in April 2018 and saw the Usses further stretching the envelope of their playfully warped vision of sonic reality. LP number four is currently in the oven and will be released in late 2020 on new label Dawn Chorus Recording Company started by Canterbury psych legends Syd Arthur.

Since forming in 2013 they have been supported by Bristol indie label Stolen Body Records. They have shared stages with the likes of Melt Yourself Down, The Comet is Coming and Sons of Kemetand have embarked on several European tours, bringing their joyful noise as far as Greece and Portugal.

Leon Boydon – Bass; Dan Truen – Drums; Lorenzo Prati – Sax and Keys; Conrad Singh – Guitar

Batu

Timedance owner Batu has carved out a unique sound for himself since his debut in 2013. Subsequent 12″s on a number of labels including XL Recordings, Hessle Audio and his own Timedance imprint have found him grounded in British bassbin principles. His style however is relentlessly forward thinking, and pushing his sound in adventurous, inventive ways that have become something of a signature aesthetic.

Batu and his tight-knit Timedance label continue to push the boundaries, putting Bristol firmly at the center of global bass-minded music culture. His efforts have given him a number of critically acclaimed years, including a series of standout EPs, remixes for Sampha and R&S Records, and establishing Timedance as one of the most vital proponents of fresh UK dance music.

His DJing is also increasingly respected worldwide. A standout set at Dekmantel’s Selectors festival earned him a place in The Guardian’s ‘Best Mixes of 2018’ list, and Mixmag ranked him as one of their top 20 DJs in 2017. Recent times have seen him tour Asia, America and play a series of the best festivals in Europe (a list including; Field Day, Freerotation, Dimensions, Unsound, Dekmantel and many more

Following this, they have appeared on a slew of remixes and compilations for the likes of Lava Lava, Le Chatroom & Pressure Dome.

As a Duo, Cando's sound can be best described as a UK Funky -influenced percussive pressure incorporating surging bass along with a blend of tribal Afro-tech drums and blissful synthesizer motifs.

This is a formula that is showcased by the DJ of the duo (Chad) who incorporates these styles into his sets.
