One in three women on the planet will be raped or beaten in her lifetime. That is one billion women. In 2013, one billion women and men shook the earth through dance to end violence against women and girls. This year, we are calling on women and men everywhere to harness their power and imagination to rise for justice. Imagine, one billion women releasing their stories, dancing and speaking out at the places where they need justice, where they need an end to violence against women and girls.

Join us! –

To mark the 2nd Annual One Billion Rising this Valentine’s Day, Bristol Rise are hosting a Women-only Dance & Information Day at the Trinity Centre.

There will be dance, pilates & boxercise workshops, a kids stay & play area and a release space, for survivors who wish to talk about their experiences. There will also be information and sign-posting stalls from local charities and NGOs that work towards gender equality in Bristol.

The event will be WOMEN & CHILDREN ONLY between the hours of 12 and 3.
From 3 to 4pm we will open up the event to include male performers and male attendees too.

Bristol Rise is a grass-roots, fledgling organisation started by and made up of 8 local Bristolian women who feel passionate about rising up against gender violence on a local and ultimately global level.

We were formed after the resounding success of One Billion Rising Bristol on 14 February 2013 when we took to the streets of Bristol and - through dance, song and march - demanded an end to violence against women.

We will be rising again on 14th February 2014 for the 2nd annual One Billion Rising! Follow us on facebook (, twitter (, or check out our blog ( for more info.
