It's been a busy year in the Trinity Community Garden with community projects using our spaces to grow, forage and cook and participants experiencing truly sustainable living and the complete food cycle. The garden has also provided a place for workshops, children's quests, community events and gatherings through Comic Relief, Community First and Quartet funding. We have also played host to the Wild Walks for Wellbeing group and delivered the Children's Good Food Adventures for the Activate West Side project, funded by Awards for All.

Between April and October, the garden has brought together around 60 members of the community every month, as part of their weekly and monthly drop-in sessions and special celebrations. We worked with a wide range of people but have specially ran tailored sessions for adults with mental health issues.

We had a small set back in June when considerable damage was done to the hand-built roundhouse building, after it was set on fire, leaving walls and ceiling burnt and damaged. We dedicated Trinity's Big Gig on Sun 13th July, to the Community Garden, to help raise funds to repair the damage done and thanks to Incredible Edible donations we were able to complete the necessary works in record time. We also received a Churngold Environment grant and we now have storage for all our wood and materials!

BYCA awarded us two grants to run Summer and October half term activities for children’s aged 6-12yrs. Activities included fire lighting, herbal first aid, food growing, cooking, arts & crafts and den building. Over 30 children came along to the sessions, fully immersing themselves in nature and learning about their environment.

The aim of all of our activities is to increase peoples confidence, well-being and to get them to work together. We think 2014 has been all about that with a great big thank you to all the volunteers involved!

The training team recently went in to guest on Paulette North's Ujima radio show to celebrate the success of two recent graduates of the Trinity music course who have since gone on to secure long term work experience positions at the station and can confidently report they are doing a fine job co-presenting and engineering. Congratulations Ny and Reeks.

We have plans to develop professional an exciting new programme of activities for young people in 2015. We are working to raise funds to continue delivery of our Music-Makers accredited training and drop-in sessions (Rockschool and Arts Award).

We also aim to introduce new Music-Labs and Master-Classes, delivered by project partners and guest musicians and a new Industry Music project strand. This will include Live-Learning and Industry-Learning, linking with music professionals to provide industry taster days, shadowing, mentoring and internships within a music industry setting.

Young people learning music at Trinity are able to work towards a Rock School Music Practitioner accreditation. They also get the chance to gain exclusive 'backstage' access, where they get to see first-hand the inner-workings of the live-music industry and meet artists and professionals during event set-up of live-events. As one of Bristol's most legendary music venues, this is a unique learning experience to inspire the next generation of musicians.

Roots Garden and Tuff Scout join TID for the final chapter of 2014

We love soundsystem culture and it has been our pleasure to host many of the finest sounds around in our arena. Seeing as this session is the last for the year we wanted to offer something slightly different but very special. We are very pleased to be able to bring to Bristol two of our favourite independent record labels:

Both these imprints have put out a stream of hard-hitting releases that's caught the attention of the reggae world. Working with legendary artists from Jamaica as well as new talent from the UK both have become known as some of the few 'buy on sight' labels still around and they promise to dig deep in the dubplate box for this one-off occasion!

On microphone duties and joining them in the arena we've pulled out all the stops and called in the likes of the legendary sweet voice out of Jamaica, EARL 16! Starting his career in the mid 70's Earl has recorded with some of the best; including Lee Perry, Joe Gibbs and Mad Professor, to name but a few. One of the most consistent singers in Reggae, it really is a huge treat to have Earl on this bill. He will be together with MC TROOPER who hails from the original Twelve Tribes Sounds, Jah Revelation, lyrical fire! Teaming up with Tuff Scout is the mighty REALITY SOULJAHs, whose unique combination as a duo has led to them recording with some of the best contemporary roots producers around, as well as being regulars on the European Soundsystem circuit, performing with the likes of Blackboard Jungle out of France.

Of course there has to be a soundsystem or it wouldn't be Teachings in Dub! All acts will be performing live and direct on the mighty KIBIR LA AMLAK who will once again bring their beautiful hand built soundsystem into the Trinity Centre and shake the very foundations with Jah music. Blessing the mic for them will be the up and coming MULU whose performances on the sound have built her an instant name as the new roots daughter in town. Joining her will be the righteous sounds of DONOVAN KINGJAY who has been making big strides recently with some heavyweight releases and of course nicing up the dance very often with the great Channel One.

This will be a night of top quality roots music and a wonderful way to round off the year! Remember to join the Facebook Event; we look forward to seeing you all on the 12th of December.

This Is The Kit will feature members of The Fantasy Orchestra and the Fantasy Orchestra will be presenting Navidad Nuestra, a seasonal work from Argentina by Ariel Ramirez. Other festive and seasonal stuff will be occurring.

This Is The Kit is the much beloved musical project of Kate Stables, born in England and based in Paris, though the heart of their musical community remains in Bristol, UK. Kate sings, plays guitar, banjo, trumpet and percussion, while a cast of carefully hand-plucked friends deliver guitar strums, banjo plucks, hushed horns and electronic textures that sit beneath Stables’ easy, earnest lilt. Her long time collaborator and regular live companion Jesse Vernon produced the album and contributes guitars, percussion, violin and percussion. While on tour, This is the Kit is a shape shifting entity ranging from a female duo with friend Rozi Plain to a psychedelia tinged five electric five-piece.

“The aim is to have fun playing with people whose work I really like,” says Kate in her simple and direct fashion. “The more you exchange and share with people the better things get and the more you learn.” This is the Kit has or will be opening for artists such as Jose Gonzales, Jeffrey Lewis, The National, Alexi Murdoch, Iron & Wine and Jolie Holland, and was recently selected by Sharon Van Etten as her “Favorite New Aritst” in an interview with Pitchfork.

The (Greatness Of The Magnificence) Fantasy Orchestra is a community project led by Jesse D Vernon, return to the Trinity Centre after a fabulous performance at this year's Garden Party.

With a motto ‘more is more’, this unique ethos brings together 40 + musicians from all backgrounds to create an electric atmosphere. Their eclectic repertoire, gleaned from 50s and 60s film soundtracks by Morricone, Rota, Barry, Mancini and Bollywood is bolstered by rock and pop favourites from the likes of Jimi Hendrix and David Bowie. Expect the exotic; psychedelic loveliness; rousing choral noise; some choice costumes – and a musical saw.
“Fantasy Orchestra. Bloody wonderful.. an utter joy.
Come and find out about the sustainable way to create social change

art+power invites you to join a conversation about: Tool Shops - the sustainable way to create social change

Tool Shops help us all build our capabilities by supporting each other, enabling us all to live independent and creative lives. We are particularly interested in exploring how this concept could support people with learning difficulties to become increasingly engaged with their local community.

We will set up an example tool shop and have some tools on show.

At the Trinity Tool Shop you can:

* Book a slot for an individual coaching session

* Suggest a topic for a peer support forum and present/get feedback for a project you're working on

* Book a one-to-one to explore how a Tool Shop could work in a community setting of your choice.

Let us know how you would like to get involved, contact us at: info@artandpower.org.uk / 0117 317 8099

Otherwise, feel free to pop in at any time between 11am and 4pm

art + power is what you make it. It is different for everyone but everything we share can help to make the tools we all need to make sustainable change in our lives and communities.
