The Hamlet Voyage

Join an open rehearsal by Re:Verse Theatre

As part of their R&D residency at Trinity Re:Verse Theatre are inviting residents of BS2/BS5 to come along to a free open rehearsal of The Hamlet Voyage, in the Fyfe Hall on Sunday 28 Nov. 2 pm - 3:30 pm.

The show casts new light on England’s past by exploring a specific and remarkable event: the performance of Shakespeare’s Hamlet off the coast of Sierra Leone in 1607, during what would be the first English voyage to reach India.

The play examines this historic cross-cultural encounter that took place before England became deeply involved in the Atlantic slave trade, before the age of British imperialism, and before Shakespeare became a global name.

Over the course of five days, a group of professional actors, musicians, puppeteers and theatre makers will workshop the script and experiment with how to incorporate traditional performance styles of England, Sierra Leone, India & Pakistan. The R&D will culminate in sharing for members of the community who will give their thoughts on the work in progress.
