Distant Drums Installation

Explore the story of Reggae Sound System culture through audio/visuals and performance

Distant Drums is an Audio/Visual installation exploring the story of Reggae sound system culture and it's role in the fight for racial equality.

Streamed from a handcrafted bespoke rig, set on a statue plinth, the installation features some of the most prolific names in Dub - all recalling their experiences of sound system culture. From smoke infested dances to hauling speaker boxes into transit vans, come along and listen to these treasured voices that are so often unheard.

As part of the installation there will be two live performances - “as the speakers power up, digital screens appear within the stack and two performers take the audience on a journey from Africa to the Caribbean, finally arriving suitcase in hand on the shores of the UK”.

Distant drums is created by Whispered Tales, with writing from Madu Messenger, narrated by Macka B and a distinctive Dub soundtrack by Vibronics.
