Dance Futures: Connect

Dance and Wellbeing Training and Networking Day

The event is for all dance practitioners who wish to develop and apply their skills in the health and well-being sector and connect with others in Bristol to create a strong support, training and development network

The day will include Masterclasses, discussion, the launching and development of a Dance and Well-Being Practitioners in Bristol network, a performance by older active adults dance company Gerry’s Attic.

Keynote Speakers:

Yael Owen Mckenna (People Dancing)

With a focus on the work People Dancing are doing in the field of Dance with Parkinson’s practice through the Live Well & Dance with Parkinson’s programme, Yael will also share People Dancing’s approach to the development of their participant community and well-being, alongside the importance of partnership development for future sustainability.

Barbara Disney - (Director of Creative Shift)

Sharing their successful model of delivering arts on referral in Bristol Barbara will discus Pathways to Social Prescribing and Commissioning.

Master Classes available throughout the day include:

Julia Thorneycroft: Working with active older adults

During this practical workshop Julia will share the methodologies and creative practice developed in response to working with active older adults in a performative and artistic context.

Emily Jenkins from Move Dance Feel - Dance for women affected by cancer

This masterclass will offer insights as to how to facilitate accessible and inspiring dance sessions within health contexts with a focus on: Creating safe and enabling environments; Accessibility - logistics, language, dance content; Leading from beside.

Lucinda Jarett (in partnership with Bristol Black Carers) – Somatic Dance Practise

Exploring somatic dance practices of touch, contact improvisation and the rhythms and language of everyday movement as well as the compassion and care to be carried out by individuals in care homes and in private homes.

Rachael James and The Original Spinners - Dance with Parkinson’s

Join the Original Spinners for a practical dance workshop that explores their approaches to leading Dance sessions for people living with Parkinson’s.

Lunch and refreshments are provided.

Bursaries

Theatre Bristol is offering 10 fully subsidised places to freelance dance artists and/or producers to attend this event. We want to ensure as many people as possible can be here and recognise the financial barrier of attending events like these.
