The beloved musical project of Kate Stables

This Is the Kit

This Is The Kit is the musical project of Kate Stables and long time collaborator Jesse Vernon, who are based in both Bristol and Paris. After appearing on Sunday Best Recordings’ 2006 compilation album ‘Folk Off’, the band received high praise from Drowned In Sound, and have subsequently been embraced by BBC radio for their quintessential ‘Britishness’. From 6Music, DJs Lauren Laverne, Radcliffe and Maconie, Marc Riley, Guy Garvey, Cerys Matthews, and Mary Anne Hobbs, and at Radio 1, Huw Stephens, Jen and Ally, and Phil Taggart have all given the band airplay.

On their third album, ‘Bashed Out’, the band collaborated with Aaron Dessner, best known for his work in The National. Indeed the record features the instrumental talents of not only the touring members of the band (Rozi Plain, Jesse Vernon, Jamie Whitby-Coles), but also session players from the Brooklyn music scene, including Bryce Dessner, Thomas Bartlett (Doveman, The Gloaming), Matt Barrick (The Walkmen) and Ben Lanz (Beirut, The National). The music remains quintessentially British, in a one-of-a-kind eccentric manner, and rooted in folk, but also encompasses elements of psychedelia, alternative rock, and electronic textures and sensibilities.

This is The Kit return to Trinity following performing live at BBC6 Music Festival Fringe February 2016.

Set times:

Wilsn: 8pm

The Teskey Brothers: 9pm

+ Wilsn

The Teskey Brothers are a rare musical gem.

Honouring that old school Motown sound and working it into something of their very own, the band have received widespread acclaim for their gorgeous debut album Half Mile Harvest.

A raw combination of soul and blues, the record has warmed the hearts of listeners everywhere with it’s melancholic, analogue tones.

Written by all four band members, the album was recorded in their own home studio, self-produced and released independently.

Listening to the record you’d be forgiven for thinking it was the work of Stax Records alumni in Memphis circa ‘67 rather than a group of twenty-somethings from the Yarra Valley just outside Melbourne. The feeling is as old as the tape machine it was recorded on and it’s a true expression of love.

Onstage singer Josh Teskey’s smoked whiskey voice defies expectation as the band around him hold an irresistible groove.

Their undeniable live show has wowed audiences around the world, leaving them infected with soul and blues.

please note this is a standing show

The Skids formed in 1977 are a Scottish punk rock and New wave band, formed in their hometown of Dunfermline, Scotland by Richard Jobson, Stuart Adamson, Bill Simpson, & Tom Kellichan.

After releasing an independent single, the band were played by BBC Radio One's John Peel, supported The Clash in concert, and then were signed to Virgin Records in 1978. Their seminal debut album "Scared to Dance" came out in 1979, which was quickly followed by two chart singles. Both singles were taken from the Bill Nelson produced second album "Days in Europa” (1979). The album also featured new member Rusty Egan of Rich Kids & Visage fame after the departure of Tom Kellichan. The band released two more albums "The Absolute Game" (1980) and "Joy" (1981) before splitting. Spear Of Destiny first appeared on the scene back in 1983 fronted by Kirk Brandon after the break-up of his previous band Theatre Of Hate. Spear of Destiny released a series of incredible singles such as 'Prisoner of Love', 'Liberator', 'The Wheel' and 'Never Take Me Alive, the latter reaching the UK Top 20.
