The Sunday Sessions are a series of workshops for theatre makers in the city to meet, play and share their practice, explore ideas together and learn from each other.

SESSION ONE with Toby Hulse

Toby Hulse is a Bristol-based playwright and theatre director, specialising in work for family audiences and in educational contexts. He is particularly interested in the impossible and the daft.

This workshop will develop ideas and practices formed during the making of his show Luna, about how to find the theatrical stories in scientific and mathematical material. It imagines that we are in the early stages of devising a show called A Play About Nothing.

Participants are asked to bring material about the concept of zero, the less theatrically promising the better...

Each session will be led by a different local theatre maker. Places are limited so book in advance.

This is presented by the Wardrobe Theatre in association with Trinity.

This free 2 hours taster session offers you the opportunity to meet the artists behind the project, connect with other women affected by cancer, and learn about the different ways that dance can support your health and wellbeing. The project has been running in London for 4 years, and in January launched in Bristol in partnership with Penny Brohn UK.

As part of this development we are running a series of sessions in different community spaces to offer local women a fun, social and creative experience - to help you either during or after cancer treatment.

These taster sessions are open to women only, over the age of 18 with any type of cancer and at any stage in your cancer experience – newly diagnosed, undergoing treatment and post treatment. If you have recently had surgery, we recommend being at least three months post-operative before taking part. If you wish to attend but are very ill or need a lot of physical support, we ask that you please bring a female friend or family member to support you one on one. Please wear comfortable clothing that you can move easily in.

This training will cover the practice of non-violent techniques: showing you how to de-escalate tense situations, how to interact with the police, what to do if you get arrested and much more.

In the afternoon there will be a session to form Affinity Groups, which is a group of like minded people who can act together and support each other during the protest. There will be exercises to help you form groups, work effectively together and to teach groups how to plan their own actions.

This training is designed to give you confidence when on protests and is essential for anyone who wishes to get more clued up on their rights and non violent direct action.

Even if you have attended NVDA trainings in the past, it may still be useful to get a top up.

The NVDA and Affinity Group sessions are stand-alone but complementary. You can attend just one of the sessions but are encouraged to go to both:

11am-3:30pm: NVDA (Non Violent Direct Action) training

4pm-5:30pm: Affinity Group Formation and mentoring

Please note this is for everyone with an interest in the cause.

Training is free, but small donations to cover hall hire costs and food are appreciated.

Vegan lunch will be provided for those attending the NVDA training, with light refreshments available in the afternoon.

Book your place via Eventbrite:
