It gave communities an opportunity to articulate their hopes and dreams, share and bond over the realities that their communities experience and access creativity and culture.

Potent blend of Mercury Prize nominated art-rock, indie-pop, and post-punk

Porridge Radio have become a vital new voice in alternative music. Their barbed wit, lacerating intensity, and potent blend of art-rock, indie-pop, and post-punk is like little else around and led to their 2020 album, Every Bad, being nominated for the Mercury Music Prize.

Feelings of joy, fear, and endlessness define Porridge's past 2 years. A time spent being championed by major music sites without being able to experience any of it in the real world. In their latest album, Porridge have distilled their myriad of influences into a sound that is unequivocally theirs. With a trip-hop crunch, ghostly piano, and gloriously widescreen distortion, the latest release tests the musicians' limits and explores a newfound playfulness within their music.

The 18-piece, all star, big band create music that is both heavy and beautiful, pushing the boundaries of live hip hop. Abstract Orchestra explore original samples used in hip hop joints, orchestrated across the ensemble, masterfully reinterpreting the music of hip hop greats, such as J Dilla and MADVILLAIN. The group have toured and recorded with the likes of MF DOOM, Slum Village, and Illa J and supported Yasiin Bey, Talib Kweli, and The Zulu Nation.

Taking influences from Quincy Jones, Lalo Schifrin, and David Shire, the arranger, Rob Mitchell sits somewhere between Madlib and Quincy Jones. Instrumental in the development of contemporary jazz, jazz-funk, and neo-soul, the multi-instrumentalist is an inspiration for generations of hip-hop and EDM producers. His soulful sounds have been featured by legends such as Kendrick Lamar (Poe Man's Dreams) and Common (The People).

Over the course of his career, Jackson has worked with greats such as Stevie Wonder, Roy Ayers, and Earth, Wind and Fire; more recently building on this pool of talent with A Tribe called Quest's Al Shaheed Muhammad, vocalist Gregory Porter, and legendary bassist Charnett Moffett.

Jackson looks to both the present and the past for inspiration to honour the ancient tradition of the griot - the African troubadour of truth. In this tradition, Jackson tells the stories of how many of his best-loved pieces came to light.

Californian indie-folk duo, The Milk Carton Kids, consists of Kenneth Pattengale and Joey Ryan. The duo started making music in 2011 and have since released six albums together; with the first two released free of charge.

Since their last studio album, Monterey, The Milk Carton Kids have gained a new perspective on what the band is. Recent life events provided a bruising background for their latest album, All the Things That I Did and All the Things That I didn't Do. Two-part harmonies ride acoustic guitars high above the haunting landscape created throughout the project.
