Due to successfully being awarded Arts Council support through the Grants for the Arts funding we are now recruiting for two great Freelance Posts to join our Trinity Team.

We are seeking a freelance Marketing Officer who can work with us to implement our Marketing Strategy, to help raise the profile of the Ignite project, encourage participation and engage audiences in our developing in-house programme.

We are also seeking a freelance Producer who can work with us to implement our Programme Strategy, to help programme and deliver a diverse range of activities and events that reflect our values and respond to our communities and centre users.

We are looking to engage with consultants who are confident, resourceful and creative, who can operate in a busy, changing environment.

Ignite is a year-long project 2016/2017 during which we will implement our Programme Strategy through a series of residencies, workshops and live-performance, featuring up-and-coming artists reflective of Bristol’s diverse communities.

Through an enhanced in-house programme, targeted residencies, commissioning opportunities and bridging activities that foster connectivity between resident creatives and centre users, we will help affect real change in the diversification of arts in Bristol.

Meanwhile behind the scenes Liz Clarke is working away in Fyfe Hall on her new show Cannonballista ”Part installation, part workshop programme, part intrigue, Liz has invited local women to engage in three day-long workshops sharing her making processes and practices. They will discover participants' individual Super Hero Alter Ego- or the parts of themselves that are extraordinary, untapped and unexpected. Participants will be invited to play their own unique part in the final show, Cannonballista Friday 17th & Saturday 18th July.

2015 is the UNESCO International Year of Light and on Saturday 10th July South West Dance Theatre are preparing a Sci/Art showcase day, Light Lab, to celebrate fusing arts and science. “There will be a light lab of workshops to play with ideas behind the physics of light and how they can be used in dance and other arts, as well as hosting an exhibition where artists and scientists from academia and industry can show off some of their great light-inspired work. The day will culminate in a show by several dance companies, including SWDT, performing light inspired repertoire.

Fancy joining the team? We are seeking an Operations Assistant to join the Operations Team to help with the ongoing upkeep, maintenance and repair of the Trinity Centre and with the administering of our car park – an essential revenue stream that supports our community, arts, education and heritage activities.This post is a 6mth Internship for 18-24-year-old, currently on JSA. First up tonight we have a brand new project kicking off for budding young drummers, BrisArts introduce their new group, Bristol Youth Samba who are working up to a performance at this year's St Pauls Carnival. For young people looking for a career in dance check out the Youth Dance Road Show this Saturday, find out more about work and education in the industry and check out five awesome performances.

Thursday and Friday we welcome SOLO showcase presenting 4 premieres of new contemporary performance from Bristol-based artists: Summon the ancestors with Alice Human; spot a rabbit in the headlights with Ale Marzotto; challenge your audience etiquette with Bella Fortune and relish in an angry outburst as Hannah Sullivan explodes. Jo Hellier completes the bill with her flood inspired sound installation.

Dunkelbunt ; said to merge the diverse sounds of Europes “Wild East” with Bluegrass and Hillbilly from the American pioneers of the old “Wild West”. Sounds of the world mixed with electronic, modern club music and bass heavy beats - playing alongside Manushka, Mr Tea and the Minions this Sunday.

Also just announced Earl Sweatshirt will be gracing the Trinity stage this coming June, "with impeccable wordplay, dense rhythms and effortless melodies layered in humbling texture, it's crazy to think Earl Sweatshirt has just turned 21". Described as showing "grade-A lyricism in brilliantly dark fashion that you'd only associate with hip-hop's elite", this gig is not to be missed.

If that was not enough we've now announced our Make Sunday Special After Party featuring Zhou ft Rider Shafique (Young Echo Sound), Evermoor Sound (Dub Theories Records), Sasha Steppa to keep the vibes going just that little bit longer – best of all its free.

Looking further ahead we have an ever expanding Autumn programme. Latest additions include Bristol Stands Against Modern Slavery: An evening of film and Q&A with anti-slavery experts and the premiere of Unchosen’s Films Against Slavery.

We are also proud to present Nine Lives by Zodwa Nyoni. This new show, performed by Lladel Bryant, tells the story of Ishmael, fleeing from his home in Zimbabwe where homophobia threatens his life as he seeks sanctuary in the UK. Nine Lives threads together humour and humanity to tell the real personal story behind asylum headlines.

For the dancers out there we have a fantastic new mini programme of contemporary dance classes now open to bookings with Laïla Diallo and Lisa May Thomas. Both offer contemporary dance techniques including released based practice and drawing from their own experiences as artists, practitioners and teachers.

Finally as the summer season turns from planting to harvesting we have some final exciting workshops out in the garden. If you've always fancied making your own chutney, whittling a spoon, weaving a willow basket then check out the regular events page or our Garden Project Page for more info.

"The Castle Builder tells the true story of an inmate in a Norwegian psychiatric institute who over five years built a castle on a remote headland". Welcoming back Kid Carpet (who previously headlined the Trinity Garden Party back in 2010) and his collaborator Vic Llewellyn who "re-imagine these stories, telling them with live music, projection and heartfelt storytelling".

"Can I start Again Please investigates the power and failings of language – language that tells and hide truths – sparring across the heard and the unheard, the spoken and the unspoken.

The script is poetic and full of humour and is performed by Sue MacLaine and Nadia Nadarajah with a bright, coursing and relaxed reciprocity".

Both shows are taking place in the Trinity Centre's Fyfe Hall.

The wider programme includes some of Bristol's finest as well as national and international performers, including a few companies we have had the pleasure to work with over the last year such as Greg Wohead, (Come Back Special) Massive Owl (Castle Rock) and Still House's Of Rider and Running Horses. - a targeted artist residency programme, supporting artists based within the Centre to develop new work
workshops, talks and social events, and activities, that help to build links between resident artists and other and community centre users.

We will be offering commissioning opportunities for local artists to enhance our existing programme as well as providing improved technical capabilities for community arts delivery, thanks to £15K already secured from the Garfield Weston Weston Foundation.

Young people from our Making Tracks project performed at our Annual Festival of Light and, they were great.

Making Tracks is our collaborative music making project with ACE and Basement– giving young people the opportunity to learn new skills in music creation. Trinity offers 121 and small group music sessions alongside industry workshops and opportunities to perform at Trinity events.

Xyzelle, Sealvia and Chantaleaze from project partners ACE (Aspiration, Creation, Elevation) performed two songs, followed by Trinity student Louis Stone who performed his original songs using both his acoustic and electric guitars.

Playing to an energetic and supportive crowd the students performed cracking sets and roused the crowds ready for local dub DJ Dutchie and the ever fantastic Bristol Reggae Orchestra – well done to them.

This year we welcome over 800 people through the gates who came to watch the aerial performances, the fantastic firework display from Onj, a very warm bonfire from Woodsy, and the live music in our main hall.

Thanks to everyone that makes the event happen, from staff; to volunteers; to artists; to traders and of course all of you who attended.

The Festival of Light is a free event supported in part by public donations. This year we raised over £1100 in donations meaning that we can continue to run events like The Festival of Light so everyone can enjoy.

Meet Evangeline Gardner - a homeless, 70 year old African-Caribbean woman, who finds herself living on the streets and searching for her estranged daughter Shirley.

She Called Me Mother stars BAFTA and Golden Globe nominee Cathy Tyson, best known for her stage work with the RSC and the Liverpool Everyman and on film in Mona Lisa (1986)

She called me Mother is written in poetic Trindadian vernacular rarely heard on British stages.

"I believe She Called Me Mother has the potential to be a modern classic. We are going into territory that hasn't been explored on our stages before. The emotional potential of the play is boundless. I hope this play will be a rewarding experience for our audience and all those with creative involvement." (Cathy Tyson actor/producer)

This debut show from Pitch Lake Productions, founded by actor Cathy Tyson, writer Michelle Inniss and director Cara Nolan will be the second show to tour for the Black Theatre Live consortium, dedicated to bringing inventive BAME theatre to venues across the country. It follows the recently concluded tour of Tara Arts new version of Macbeth.

Nine Lives Saturday 17th October

Fleeing from his home in Zimbabwe where homophobia threatens his life, Ishmael has sought sanctuary in the UK. He waits to hear his fate, and for a new life to begin amongst strangers.…can he find a place to call home again?

The strangers are brilliantly brought to life by Lladel Bryant..you care as much about them as you do about Ishmael.

Performed by Lladel Bryant and directed by Alex Chisholm, the play threads together humour and humanity to tell the human stories behind the “negative reports in the public domain regarding refugees, asylum seekers and the word, immigration. (writer Zodwa Nyoni)

Nine Lives, written by Zodwa Nyoni as part of her residency as West Yorkshire Playhouse / Channel Four Writer in residence 2014, was first performed as part of West Yorkshire Playhouse ‘s A Play, A Pie and a Pint’ season.

These shows follow on from several successful solo shows over the last year including Chanje Kunda's Amsterdam last October and Solo Showcase in March which brought Bella Fortune, Alice Human, Hannah Sullivan and Ale Marzotto to the Centre. Fyfe Hall has the ability to create an intimate warmth, despite its grand size, making it the perfect space to get close up to the performance.

Control and Calculation : Inheriting Liberation : Improvised Publics

Emergenc(i)es is two week series of free workshops, performances, talks, films and exhibits from some of the most exciting thinkers and creatives.

Emergenc(i)es challenges how we learn? How we are (mis) informed. Does our online, algorithm driven world teach us detachment. What if we could learn, share and transform our lives in another way.

Writer, activist curator Deborah Withers wants to provoke us. She wants to take nothing for granted. Together, speakers, artists and participants will learn how we can radically transform our lives.

Inspiring live performances:

Anushiye Yarnell performs Nest a performance which has accumulated over a period of 4 years since the early stages of her pregnancy.

Cellist Bela Emerson invites the audience to become live co-creators in her piece in this innovative and inclusive work.

Abher behn presents a solo performance that uses sound and video improvisation, performance, composition and collage in a response to our experience of The City.

Ben Owen’s Goldf” will gather range performers in clusters across the floor of Fyfe Hall producing a sprawling live soundtrack to accompany his expanded film work.

Workshops and thought provoking discussions:

Shannon Woodcock presents a gentle and provocative engagement with how history can affect and inform us today as we time travel to meet colonial Australia’s first cook book writer, Cooking the Books of Genocide in Australia.

Madhu Krishnan examines how a radical politics might intersect with notions of resilience in the context of oppression under late capitalism in the twenty-first century.

Celebrated improv vocalist Maggie Nicols uses creative exercises to facilitate an inspiring group dynamic which reassure the nervous and challenge complacency to enable you to release your inner voice.

Should we be demanding Wages for Digital Labour? How do we, as everyday users of digital technologies, help to create wealth for large multinational companies?

Corey Mwamba looks types of silence as a palpable musical event within totally improvised music.

Bristol's favourite poet, playright, historian and general all rounder Edson Burton will respond to ‘Concerning the Poem’s Information’ from Édouard Glissant’s Poetics of Relation.

Martin Crowley’s presentation explores theory of participation in relation to culture, what it means to be truly involved and how what happens if we are not.

Charlotte Cooper, author of Fat Activism: A Radical Social Movement, will challenge you to generate your own ideas for research and publishing tactics that demolish unethical and unequal power systems.

Per-forming Pharmacy - considering the emergency of the current historical moment through the collecting, categorising, collaging and sharing of words.

Transgender: Cultural and historical developments and the “case” of James Miranda Barry - Anne Heilmann explore how have perceptions and understandings of gender, sex and sexuality developed through history.

If you would like to learn more about repairing how we are portrayed in our public spaces, and if you’d like to take collective action to repair how we are portrayed in our public spaces, then join Dr Nathaniel Adam Tobias and Isabelle Cox as they Dismantle the Master's Museum.

The week will culminate with one last final performance to end on - watch this space for details.

Support will come from the ever incredible Bellatrix; beatboxer and collaborator with Dizraeli, and vocal improviser Maggie Nichols who has worked with improvisers from all over the world - this is going to be a night of incredible collaboration with even a chance to get involved in an audience choir!

Coming up we can also announce two new shows to complete the line up for this year's Mayfest here at Trinity, introducing  The Secret Slowness of Movement and Stand which along side Dance Marathon create a week of innovative performances.

For those keen to get political we have plenty going on from the Anarchist Bookfair, bringing you stalls from local campaigns and groups to national anarchist distros and publishers; workshops and meetings to discuss and debate the key issues and much more. Next week we also welcome the start of a two week run, returning from its UK tour and sell-out run at Edinburgh Festival 2014, the award-winning FellSwoop Theatre (Ablutions, Belleville Rendez-vous) present Current Location; an allegorical response to the ongoing and ever-increasing number of ecological disasters. A site specific production, developed specifically for Trinity Centre, Current Location will immerse and enlighten audiences in the significant issues and questions surrounding climate change:

Also announced on the website last week and coming up in July we have the UK’s sell out beer festival, Craft Beer Rising, launching its first cider event in Bristol this summer. Already confirmed: Prince Fatty & MC Horseman, Don Letts, Portishead sample digger Andy Smith, DJ Format & Boca 45. The Nextmen have just been added to the bill too so this is certain to sell out - get your tickets in early.

Also, don't forget the monthly regulars, Bump Roller Disco, Lil' Bumpers and Rhythm of The Night.

Last year's event will be a hard one to top – as we were blessed with glorious sunshine all day and a lovely crowd that joined us from dawn to dusk. However, you’ll be happy to hear that this year it is going to be even better [sadly we cannot guarantee the weather though, just the experience]. This year we’ve a delightful line up ranging from soul to- jaz to hip-hop to dub.

Headlining this year is Dubkasm (aka DJ Stryda & Digistep), who we have worked closely with over the years so it’s pretty special to be programming them to play on the Garden Party stage. This is a headline slot filled with live instrumentation and lo-tech dubwise textures, underpinned by a strong roots vibe. It is going to be smashing.

Across the rest of the day we’ll be filling the line up with a mix of artists from Bristol. We are starting the day with young people from our in house music course, everything from solo singer-song-writer to hip hop and beyond.

Sounds Of Harlowe bring live hip-hop/ soul to the line up this year and Sepia, will grace the Trinity stage for the first time with his forward thinking beats and rattling bass. Run Logan Run bring a sax and drums jazz outfit with added noise and expect jazzy wonky-pop from Toddler, fronted by Stevie-Jo Dooley. There’s afrobeat, soundscapes and improvisation from instrumental group Tezeta or for those of you who like something a little different we’ve got minimal / hypnotist-un-rock from Motes.

Things are hotting up for our big Guinness World Record attempt for the largest Samba Dance which is now officially registered. Bristol is home to a number of Samba artists, dancers & drummers, who provide a vibrant backdrop to some of the city's key events including Harbourside Festival and St Werburgh's Farm Fair. If, like us, you feel we can beat this record, join in and learn the simple routine, created by World Jungle Samba Dancers and head on down to Stapleton Road Make Sunday Special.

Last week we popped along to Circomedia to hear all about Bristol Circus City who have now announced their full programme. We are very pleased to have Bromance, by barely methodical theatre, in Fyfe hall, 21^st – 23^rd October ‘a jaw-dropping magnificent show.’ Lots more great shows to catch in this new month long festival.

For those creatives out there we are hosting a very special meeting with MAYK, Situations and Dr Edson Burton to share the word on Theaster Gates new commission here on Tuesday 18^th August – amazing opportunity to find out how you can work get involved and be part of this incredible event.

Just added Nitin Sawhney to our live listings, one of the most distinctive and versatile musical voices around today headed our way in November.

Also, if you have a moment please vote for us as Just Giving's Charity of the Year 2015 From free music courses for young people to arts, heritage and permaculture projects for wider community, Trinity offers something for everyone. Each year the centre is used by over 40,000 people and we give over 1,000 hours of free space to other grass-roots groups to run their projects and activities for the community.
