The Organic Growers Alliance will launch 'Organic Matters', their first UK horticulture conference.

This October, the OGA will launch Organic Matters, their first horticulture conference.

The conference aims to:

Support the development of UK organic horticulture by bringing together expertise and innovation from across the industry.

Advocate best practice in technical aspects of organic horticulture and sustainable business management.

Build bridges and facilitate knowledge exchange amongst horticulturalists using regenerative and organic methods.

Facilitate knowledge exchange between experienced growers and new entrants.

What to expect:
Organic Matters will be hosting 150 delegates from organic and regenerative horticulture. They will facilitate the exchange of technical knowledge through an exciting programme of speaker sessions (8 in total). There will be plenty of opportunities for networking between delegates and speakers. The sessions will be recorded and available after the event for those who cannot attend. They are hoping to establish the conference as an annual event which will grow over the coming years. Expect technical sessions covering themes such as soil health, pest & disease management, plant science, mentoring and work efficiency.

Why a conference?
OGA has been struck by the lack of opportunities for growers to share technical information and advice and believes that Organic Matters will fill a vital gap in UK organic horticulture.

At this years Oxford Real Farming Conference, OGA hosted two sessions on technical aspects of horticulture, one on tool design and adaptation and another on minimum tillage mulching systems (video here: https://bit.ly/2E7VT00). Both sessions were extremely successful and well-attended and convinced the OGA of the need for a stand-alone conference specifically focussed on horticulture.

Female Is Not a Genre: A Debate

The World is Listening present this discussion on women in music

The World is Listening continue their quest to celebrate and represent women in music, and sparking the conversation about the cause and effect of the gender gap in the music industry.

They bring their second public discussion in Bristol to Fyfe Hall, upstairs in the Trinity Centre, debating the topic 'Female is not a genre', lead by 3 excellent guest speakers and our host, TWIL co-founder, Emma Hooper. The talk will be followed by an open forum where you can ask questions of our panel.

Expect a hands on discussion looking at the culture of musicians being labelled 'female' ('female drummer', 'female singer', 'female songwriter), the sexism behind the craze (as Caitlin Moran says, to figure out if some sexism is happening at you, ask if the same applies to men), and also the benefit, need or desire to identify as female in the music industry, or just, as a human.

Unchosen is proud to announce the premiere of Unchosen’s Films Against Slavery.

Modern slavery remains widespread in the UK with the Home Office recently estimating that there are between 10,000 to 13,000 victims at any one time. It can affect men or women, boys or girls; it can affect people from any background, of any nationality including British nationals as well as those trafficked into the UK.

A film screening will be followed by a panel discussion with anti-slavery experts where people from all communities are invited to attend this free event to find out what slavery might look like in their area and what they can do about it.
