Sad Night Dynamite are well acquainted with roads less travelled. The duo of Josh Greacen and Archie Blagden crept out of Somerset in 2020 with a sound that pushed the eerie psychedelia of the area’s musical history (Portishead, Massive Attack, Glastonbury Festival as a concept) through the sharp lens of contemporary paranoia. Formative mixtapes Vol.I, Vol.II and collaborations with the likes of Moonchild Sanelly and IDK have touched a nerve ever since, with the band’s signature blend of surreal character-studies, waspish humour, and serious undertones surpassing 60 million streams and selling out tours around the world - including shows with Glass Animals & easy life.

Connecting the unlikely dots between hip-hop, blockbuster pop and bugged-out storytelling, it’s a chemistry that explodes on debut album Welcome The Night. Here is a humorous soundtrack to the end of the world, but one designed to allow a disenfranchised generation some comfort amidst life’s incoherence. Despite such existential questions, there appears at least one clear answer: increasingly, it’s impossible to mistake a Sad Night Dynamite song for anyone else.

Melody within free song structures, atmosphere, and the impulses of the voice

Julia Holter is a composer, performer, and recording artist based in Los Angeles.

Her interest in sonic mysteries has led her to record in various settings--in her home, outside with a field recorder, and in recording studios—as well as to perform live, often with a focus on the voice and the space between language and babble. Holter’s music is multi-layered and texturally rich, often featuring an array of instruments played by an ensemble of creative musicians. She has amassed a body of work that explores melody within free song structures, atmosphere, and the impulses of the voice.

Their brand of feel-good funk and hyped-up hip-hop has seen them clock up A List status and numerous 'Album of The Day’ gongs at BBC 6 Music, and soundtrack a whole host of international ad campaigns. Year in, year out, they’ve sharpened their skills in the studio, dropping one dynamite LP after another. 2024 sees them cut the ribbon on their seventh all-star album Breakthrough. Full to the brim with party-starting heat, the record showcases their never-ending knack for turning out soul-sampling bangers, and deep infectious grooves. Due to popular demand, they’ll be assembling their crack team of musical collaborators once more, and hitting the road with a high-octane live show to bring their music to life. Joining them on stage, as always, is LA rap legend, Andy Cooper The mighty pipes of soul sensation, Marietta Smith, and the blazing horns of sax supremo, James Morton.
Together, they’ve earned a rep for their dynamite crowd-rocking. And, with this new material in the bag, it looks like they’ll be raising the roof even higher this year.

On Sunday 12 May, we opened our gates once again for Trinity Garden Party – our, free annual day party, celebrating the start of the summer through music, dance and arts.

"It was a fabulous day - thank you to Team Trinity and everyone involved!" - Audience Feedback

In our outdoor venue, The Den, we programmed a diverse range of live music and DJs from across Bristol and The South West. The young musicians from our Next Gen Sounds programme kicked off proceedings, showcasing their musical talents that they’ve honed during the sessions. Following on, we had beautiful acoustic Folk from Eva Penney, groovy Latin rhythms from Los Gusanos, Moroccan Gnawa from Mohammed Errebba, and live Hip Hop from Komposa. Later on in the evening, DJs brought the energy, with an eclectic world music selection from Kesh, amapiano and UK Funky from Josephine Gyasi, and finally Selecta J-Man and Rider Shafique finished things off with a heavy selection of Jungle and Drum and Bass.

Inside, The Main hall was buzzing with performances from our resident dance group Hype Dance, a Turkish Belly Dance circle from Anna K, and finally The Greenbank Ceilidh Collective led the dance with a joyous ceilidh. Upstairs, Fyfe Hall hosted a range of creative craft workshops to keep the young ones busy.

We wanted to say a massive thank you to all who made Garden Party this year such a success; from the talented artists, workshop facilitators, stall-holders, local food vendors, the dedicated sound and lighting team behind the scenes, our hardworking bar staff, the entire Team Trinity, and, of course, all of you who joined us on the day. The event saw our largest ever turnout, with over 3,500 attendees, and thanks to your generosity we raised over £5000 in donations, allowing us to organise more community events like Garden Party as well as supporting our charitable mission of making the arts accessible to all. Garden Party just keeps getting bigger and better, with a 60% increase on last year's attendees, and a 65% increase on last year's donations. Thank you for coming down to support what we do and celebrating music, dance and the arts.

Alternative/indie, rock

Mercury Rev is an American rock band formed in Buffalo, New York;

Since forming in 1989, Mercury Rev has made a career out of boldly exploring the fringes of artistic perception, channeling colors and sounds and visions that always seem just beyond our mortal reach. The Guardian hailed the group as “a rarity in indie rock: a band who have continually evolved their sound, pushing at the boundaries of what rock music actually means over 25 years, borrowing from jazz, funk, doo-wop, techno, folk and more along the way,” while Rolling Stone praised their “majestic chaos,” and the BBC lauded their “shimmering psychedelic pop, immersive indie-rock, [and] spectacularly engrossing passages of sumptuous instrumentation.” The band’s 1991 debut, ‘Yerself Is Steam,’ landed on Pitchfork’s rundown of the Best Shoegaze Albums of All Time, and their 1998 breakthrough, ‘Deserter’s Songs,’ was named NME’s Album of the Year upon its release. Major festival and television performances around the world solidified their status as that rare group capable of straddling the line between mainstream appeal and progressive musical and technological experimentation, but the band’s journey has always also been a tumultuous one, full of triumphs, setbacks, heartbreak and jubilation. They are currently putting the finishing touches on a new album.
