About The Den

The Den is Trinity’s new, seasonal outdoor venue. Situated within the historic grounds of Trinity, The Den is designed to feel like a magical corner of a festival, with its own bar, food offer and a backdrop of the vibrant community garden.

Join Beyond Face as they host an evening of words in different forms, with a collection of artists who will perform poetry, monologues, spoken word and speeches.

This chilled out night, will also be a chance for audience members to do a bit of creative writing as part of the evening to express and respond to what you hear.

A Bristol reading from the brilliant debut collection of YouTuber, writer, and poet, Leena Norms. Plus a local support line up TBA.

Leena Norms is a British poet and writer from the West Midlands. She has been sharing her poetry online for over 10 years and her video essays have amassed over 11 million views to date, covering everything from literature and second hand fashion to protecting the planet and surviving your twenties.

Bargain Bin Rom-Com is the first collection of poems by Leena Norms. From the politics of ice-cream to the permission slip you didn’t know you needed, this is a tongue-in-cheek look at living on a planet that is filled with both doom and glitter.

MC Yallah is a Kenyan artists based in Uganda, and an affiliate of the big Nyege Nyege crew. Her fierce and intense lyrics are drawn from real-life experiences and often address women’s issues, spreading a powerful message of integrity and self-determination. Her lyrics are delivered in a range of languages including Kiswahili, Luganda, English and Luo.

MC Yallah and Debmaster released their album Kubali together in 2019. This collaboration paired MC Yallah's fiercely controlled lyricism and Debmaster's rugged riddims.

Art of Resistance takeover - Heritage Lottery funded project exploring 100 years of activism in Bristol

• 'Wordz of Resistance' - Raise the Bar, the South West's leading spoken word poetry event lead this workshop exploring the power of spoken word poetry as a weapon of resistance with a Hip Hop workshop led by Craft D and performances featuring two talented headline poets Deanna Rodger and Muneera Pilgrim. This workshop will also feature an open mic hosted by Saili Katebe.

• 'Visions of Resistance' - Design and create a mural that captures Bristol's rich history of protest and depicts a vision for a better future. This workshop will explore elements of mural design such as collaging and print making as well as a discussion of the role of art in activism. Facilitated by Tanith Gould, an experienced mural artist part of Bristol Womxn's Collective.

Sister Nancy is renowned for performing ‘inna soundsystem’ style in the streets of Kingston, Jamaica. Everyone knows her dancehall classics ‘Bam Bam’ and ‘One Two’ all performed in her original ‘ragga muffin style’.

Sister Nancy will head up Trinity backed by ‘rub a dub’ artist Legal Shot.

Since Bishop’s signing to Nas’ label, Mass Appeal Records in 2014, he has gone on to release music at an incredibly consistent rate, collaborating with MF DOOM on Nehruvian Doom.

Having supported Wu-Tang Clan’s 20th Anniversary, Nas, DOOM, Kendrick Lamar, Schoolboy Q & many others, Bishop Nehru is a fresh rapper who has earned the respect of some of the greatest in the game.

Artists Rider Shafique and Khali Ackford (I-Dentity) & Trinity team up to bring a monthly meet-up to a offer a place of support, reflection, reason & opportunity for Black Creatives (all disciplines welcomed).

Supported by Trinity, the meetups have been inspired following feedback from online workshops, delivered by Rider and Khali, as part of Trinity's community arts project What I Want To See, What I Want To Be.

Meetups are on every fourth Monday of the month.

From STANLAEY + Robbie & Mona, boundary pushing experimental dance music electronic artist Sunun, underground Techno from Bristol's own Giant Swan and emerging female and non-binary collective Booty Bass, some of the best sounds in the South West have performed as part of Garden Sessions in our magical outdoor venue this year.

Across 13 shows we welcomed over 1600 people, supporting 51 artists and creating 88 opportunities for paid work for the freelance creative workforce.

We connected with local communities to offer affordable tickets for all our shows, including nationally touring British/Somali singer FaceSoul, whose intimate performance created lasting memories for all who attended.

Due to the success of Garden Sessions we are planning to launch the outdoor venue as a seasonable space in 2022. Click here to find out more.

In Lockdown in early 2020 we teamed up with some of the most exciting names in Bristol's music scene, from St Paul's Carnival to Mini Rig to Nozstock Festival, to bring online audiences live streams.

In October 2020, our socially-distanced Trinity Presents: Garden Sessions where the first opportunity to welcome audiences back to Trinity to enjoy live music, in person.

“I’ve always known how much I value shared human connection on a dance floor but since March I’ve been trying to get this in other ways, dancing on zoom with friends, dancing to my mini rig with 5 friends in a wood. But tonight I experienced again the incredible wonder of the talented DJs of @bootybass playing tunes and responding to a crowd, feeling my insides vibrate with bass, glancing up and smiling at a stranger as you connect, arms in the air in synchronicity and I cried a little tear of joy. We put together an exciting series of events in a special, Covid-secure outdoor area in Trinity's historic grounds.

We teamed up with some of our favourite artists & Soundsystems for 9 full days sell-out live music & DJ's : Waldo's Gift, Hodge & Danielle, Dubkasm, Ashanti Selah, Young Echo, Sinai Soundsystem, Booty Bass, Bandulu, Sofa Sound, Afrobeat Fridays.

People commented that the space felt magical and like something special that you discover in a hidden corner of a festival.
